5 July Barrow, Alaska
Nest #14 - at south end of plot C. lay 1 low flat
polygon - hidden by George-grass blades. - 2
meubating - flew off the nest when I was 20' away -
Flying low & rapidly - landing 50' away - stood erect
Giving 3 sequence of ral-ral-rab - then running off
hunched over, - looking back over its shoulder,
stopping - standing erect - one summerd again.
Nest #15 - allowed approach to 40' - flew
50' at Rtl - landed - ran off i <
rodent tree - after looking back - finally
when-100' away - moved in a partly hunched
posture - circling around + following me at
the side for 200' curve. It flys off -
from hill.
Trill activity was generally up today.
Two instances of kras-ing were
recorded - on 1 these two by 3
with a very weak voice - given a
high pitched kras ka-rad - . The cooled
breath & your beard - at the feet
and i display period - call.
26 Trills heard during Dec 6 hour
on plot B - most [illegible] were in response to
my disturbing the nest - the remainder
were in response to other birds & probably represented
the remainder of territorial activity.
