5 July Barrow, Alaska
Nests all intact on Shroanb flat & vicinity. Few
more were located - a nest with 8 eggs - one with 7-8 incubating.
No sign of hatching yet.
Nest #7 - 8 allowed approach to 20's'.
The fledgling off at 8t Ls - injury
flight - flying across pond - landing in a
manner - the standing up from
a polyptych & ral-raking several times.
He followed us for 350' before starting
to work its way back toward the
nest
Nest #8 - birds were off nest &
moved into a flock of 4 - unsettled
birds.
Nest #9 - bird (8?) flew off when I was
6' away - flew low over the ground in a
rapid flight - landed 60' away
(at 8t Ls & one?) - sat in a hunched
posture - gave several ral-ral. D. sapper
Nest #10 - bird (9?) appeared
< low rapid flight - landed 25' in
nest - lurked 10' away - ran off
in hunched posture - the stood erect
- disappeared in brush - not seen again
until I turned & headed away - then it
led me off - while it was in a partly hunched posture
