Erolia alpina
8.
16 June Barrow, Alaska
The arvond seems to have a quieting
effect on the birds as they even see
feeling actively with very little
display activity going on. During the
last several days the landing
display has not always been used
as the birds come in. Also the flight
displays are lessening. In this flight
display, it may consist of a
series of long drawn out trills
which are given in succession as
the bird glides fly she slowly through
the air.
18 June Barrow Alaska
Several individuals seen do, of the
drum area and along the beach
ridge. These birds were displaying
and could be heard up to a consid-
erable distance. The females were presumably
on a nest; however none were
flushed. These males must defend
rather large territories, for one &
watched would fly several
hundred yards during its display
activity and settle down to
feed for awhile and then fly
and stop somewhere else.
