Erolia alpina
13 June Barrow, Alaska
Unvariably dropped its legs as it was flushed. Upon collecting one of these
birds today, it gave the alarm note. Also it was the
bird which gave the alarm note. There
is a possibility that there was a mix-up
when the birds were collected, so these
birds need further checking.
14 June Barrow, Alaska
Very few of these birds were seen today
due probably to the effect of the S.E.
wind. However several pairs were
seen and 5 birds collected. The
territorial establishment was not
noted; however it may also have been
surprised by the wind. In examining the
2 females which were collected, it was discovered
that both had laid one egg and
that a second was about ready to
descend into the oviduct. Probably
the first egg had been laid late
yesterday or early this morning.
A bird was collected which was
giving the alarm note, dropped its feet, and
gave an indication of displaying. Upon
examination, it proved to be a ?; thus
contradictory. The finders 13 June.
