Holmes, R. 1962 Folia alpina Jane Barrow, Alaska head up, but not extended, tail in normal position. The other bird flew by several feet - he remained harder up angle with both wings raised - after few seconds he took flight - landed near her - kept 1 wing (at) up & gave a soft trill (similar to aerial trill but not as loud or "resonating"). She responded then- then both birds resumed feeding. This probably was a pairing display - ??? A long aerial chase with 2 birds involved - was seen. The birds were flying low - usually about 3-5' from ground but occasionally to 10' - swooping from side to side - going in circles - shooting up & down & then turning & fly off in another direction. The bird in pursuit (?) would give part of a display for very brief period / time (i.e. shoulder wing beats & parts the hill) - then he would resume in degree wing action & repair distance to the other bird. The displacer would usually [illegible] fly below, slightly behind the pursued. Once these 2 landed near other birds & with these already on ground - extended both
