Crolea alpina
12 june Barrow, Alaska
called a Standing display. The female
(and possibly Turnola) has a recognition
or location note, which in a deep
grittrale "trill". It is given when
The two birds are on the
ground and separated from each
other. Nine birds were collected
today to ascertain which bird
was doing the displaying. Upon examining the specimens, it seems that
The male is the main displaying
and that he is probably the
less aggressive member of the pair.
Also it seems that if the female
is shot, The male will come to her
"aid". If the displaying bird is
shot first, The female will vocate the
area and not return to the injured
bird. Also it seems so far that
The males may average 10-15
gms lighter than the females.
