Holmes, R. 1961 Feeding Data Erolia alpina 7 July Barrow, Alaska Ad. with chicks - feeding in grassy, plains on west side of Footprint Lake. - Ad picked or picked 8 x in 40' - no probes made - collected tos #1152. 9 July Barrow, Alaska Group 3 in Pandle a mud-edge pond - N. t.w. 1 Voth's Aunt just E of O.S. of T. I.D.A. Grass range De pond but thru in 6-10' 1 Mud - on E & W sides. 1 Bird watched feeding as follows. 30 sec. - 30 peck-probes - 6' at edge " " - 23 " " - 2' ... - belly deep 29 " - 33 " " - 1' ... - " 25 " - 19 " " - 4' 'frody water' 52 " - 41 probes unwell - 5' ... " , belly deep 31 " - 33 - probes 197sec pick-probe on a partial spot - not full probe. In our cases full probe meant De head ever put underwater. Weather bright - Sunny. Time 1500-1515. 10 July More Observation in Reservoir as above, excepting 2 birds present - 4 feeding. 1430 - bird feeding in 2' (water) 120sec - 58x - head lifted but probe sure made 4-8x (m=5) probed down -
