7 Aug Barrow, Alaska
Trip to new census plot, S. of ookepik slough.
1 flying juvenile was seen. about half way
between ookepik & Wohlscholz - feeding in
the wet marshy flat. This was the only
flock seen. So, 1 ookepik, 2 flock
were encountered, and 15 + or
of 8. These consisted entirely of adults,
some of which were well along molt,
other which were showing no signs external
of molt. See was seen.. On the
return trip, a gray 19 was encountered
in ookepik slough. All birds were
feeding in wet marshy areas, where
there was standing water.
8 Aug - 2 flying immatures, 2 adults seen
together No. 100th Tree. These were
feeding through the wet marsh area.
Another group 1 4-5 adult was seen
nearby < [illegible] juvenile was seen
near Pool M + [illegible]. A couple (The
adults seen appeared to be in quite good
plumage (summer!).
9 Aug - Several flocks encountered between the VOR
road & the insect plot. One group of 30 adults
was found quite close to the plots. These were
feeding on the slope or in the wet-alkaline
ponds. Two juveniles were seen near there.
