Holmes,R 1961 20. Erolia alpina 26 July Barrow, Alaska Fed, it was noted that all indiv. were pickling or picking at the surface or at the vegetation + no probing was noted. This was true for birds that were feeding along a marshy-upland pond-edge. Another flock of 6 was seen feeding in the marshy area S of the 1st lake, S of Footprint. No other birds were seen during the entire morning. 30 July Not seen in the tundra today - during cruise to Woblookay & So. Woblookay. In the late morning, a flock of 19 was seen N. 1 Birnik along the pond-series. All were adults - no immatures. -5 were collected. 31 July A flock of 18 (16 Ads, 2 Juvs) - See feeding N/S the west end of Trypler- III A+B. The 2 Juvs + 12 Ads were collected. All were feeding at the edge of autophile ponds. 2 Aug 1 flying juv - by himself - was seen over. No. 1 Footprint lake. 3 Aug A flock of 15 - all Ads seen No. 1 Birnik, 4 were coll. 4 Aug 3 indiv seen near VOA's area, (2 collected). All were feeding in the wet marsh ponds.
