23 July Barrow, Alaska
So. Wohlschlegel & Elson [1 cocl]. One of the was
seen flying in this area. The next was
seen alone near the edge of an Arctophila
pond with Dysphania mensis - just N of ootpir
& due So. of The Fertilizer plots.- coll.
Finally, a flying jun. was seen in the S. end
of central marsh. - coll. Total RB seen = 6, incl
1 jun.
Most birds seem to be feeding at the
pond edge or in wet marshy fields. Unfortunately
the stomachs of the 3 cocl. above - were
almost empty - so little food habit data
was obtained. This is a general rule
however - that birds are now feeding in
the lowland - as opposed to the broyat
polygyn type.
24 July
One Adult (8") + 2 non-flying chicks were
seen r.coll. in Central Marsh just N of
the Cener plot (but in the marsh). The 8"
gave a stormy distraction display, flutturing
away with wings out stretched, uttering
the whumpeng cries.
26 July
-One flock of 11 birds seen feeding on the
ridge area 200 yds west of Delsanga
at Skroewk. 7 of these coll.- showed
adult Tipulids, beetles, - occas. Small flies
in their gizzards. In watching these birds
