13 July Barrow, Alaska
The RB nest along the road to The B.R. is still
intact & The O was incubating.
15 July Two RB were feeding again in The black
mud on the ponds just N.T.W. of Voth's three-
proper. They either fed in The middle or
both around The grass growing at
The edge The mud. all feeding was
done by rapid probing - usually
feeding with 4-I probe in succession, a bird
with head raised slightly - then
returned to probing. One flew over
Ponds J, H, + I - but kept a going.
Our partial display heard today. - just
The whinny. The wing molt seems
to be about completed.
16 July 1 bird remained at The mud ponds.
This was The only RB seen during The
afternoon. The nest along the road toward
The B.R. had apparently watched, trace
signs of The birds were gone -
19 July - flock of 5 rear cormorants (Wade + Elsa -
Vcalr - see journal-catalog. 2 family
groups encountered. - 1 young collected, 2 banded.
Three birds feeding at soft mud pot will probe-
dull-feather for the food, while those
feeding in grassy areas will pick up peck
+ not probe -
