Erolia alpina
13 July Barrow, Alaska
collected. They were feeding in low polygon
-grass area with no water nearby. The 2nd
flock consisted of 3 young & both adults. - The
young were banded. - These were feeding
Nima Pond. Two flocks of RB were
also encountered - and 4% wr 15. Few
were collared from each flock. These
were nearly all molting. All had
wing + tail molt. During the past
days, all birds seem to have
shucked their central tail feathers &
Some are molting other feathers for
the midline out towards the periphery.
Wing molt continues, so that most
birds are now molting the 3 or 4th
feather from the distal end.
Several displays heard today, mostly
from the disturbed family groups. The
distress call - at which the young freeze
seem to be the raah, raah, raah....
call - This is interwoven with a - breeep....
The male raah.....
Two birds were seen just east of
Trap II-A-B - at the mud-boiler pond.
One was watched feed - see feeding
record sheets. None were seen -
