Erolia alpina

(4-6') and after 100 yards he set his
wings in a V-shape & glided to hulled for
another 50 feet before landing. No other
bird was seen, but it may have been
nearby. This individual also raised one
wing towards the observer during the feeding
period. This wing raising has not appeared
before - this year.
The north end of the plot was walked in the afternoon.
The only RD present were 1 pr. of individuals right
at the NE end - see census sheets, The pr
was observed flying east & the lone bird then displayed
upright mode from several both into their
territory - apparently, some boundaries are now
in effect. When they landed, a couple of seconds
later - the 8" kept both wings held high overhead &
walked a few steps & then lowered them to resume
feeding. Whether this is just a left for the
display flight or an additional signal, I do
not know.

One bird watches feeding and again great distances
were covered. Feeding seems to take place both
in the wet troughs & the drier, drained grasslands.
The animal still may linger even in its
entirety on the ground within no special
posturing. However, occurs a wing or more
