Holmes, R. 1959 Erolia algira 7. nestless and would not allow a close approach. 9 June Barrow, Alaska. Three seen in drum area feeding on small excreta near a gravel. No other activities noted. Also ~12 seen near The Voth Area, w. of The Base. 10 June Many of these birds seen along the gas well road. Some seemed to be paired; others not. When the birds are about to land, they fly in a fluttering-type pattern and after they alight, their wings are held high above their body for about one second before folding them into normal position. Also when the birds on the ground are approached, they will often raise one wing to a vertical position (possibly meant as a warning?).
