29 LLWolf 1964 Aimophila festiva June 22 1½ mi. S. Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas no ? noted in area. next / Checked nest 1 mi S. - contained one white egg. This nest egg + one partly completed both opened to N. nest with young- this also opens to N. arrived at 0620. Young 4 young still present; all four crouched down when I tapped entrance to nest. ? is chirping to S. of nest pecked 0628- still chirping but coming closer. not carrying food. morning is cool - 71° F. at 0:50 with low level fog. adult now (0630) in tree above nest (25' up) chirping 1/2 sec. when it flew into this perch much changing of direction on perch with wing flicking + tail pumping. head held up + body feathers slightly fluffed, also much bobbing motion. 0635- down to 15' above nest in tree just to E. of nest. still going thru all motions connected with high state of excitement. 0638 moved over to E. side of E. tree E N W @nest 0640 now in line with main trunk + 12 feet up. on dead limb (½" dia). occasionally tilts head downward as if looking at nest. 0645 changed perches - back to W side of E. down slightly from 12'. chirping 1/2 sec. 0650 - changed perches 2 times in quick succession - to E or E. 0652 back to W again. still chirping 1/2 sec. with occasional bobbing accompanied by wing flicking + tail pumping. 0655 down to ground where still chirping, but less frequently. went to ground about 10 feet E. of nest. Worked to N. toward me.
