4 mi. E. Tehuantepec, 100±ft, Oaxaca, Mexico
0630 - found ♂♀ up in 8 foot tree at edge of closed canopy vegetation.
singing what sounds like solo version of chatter -- ♀?♂?
0632.5 - left perch + dropped to ground. I walked over + both flushed
from ground into shrubs - 3-4 feet up on dead horizontal branches.
both bill wiped thru or preened while ♀ departed to forage. Moved
along in 75±% continuous herb layer mostly grass + a velvety leafy
herb growing up to 2 foot tall. ♂♀ sang once loudly while
preening. finished preening + worked to top of adjacent shrub
(8 feet up) to dead top branch where began singing (0641). At first
singing loud, chatter song, but soon switched to -- ♀'♂''♂ song.
Gave two short chatter songs - each time when vehicle passed on
road 75±yds. to N.
0647 - ♀ up into lower branches of shrub. moves from leaf chewy to leaf chewy.
bittery leaves with head + breast causing water droplets to shower down.
than onto same dead branch where earlier flushed + sat preening.
0651 - ♂ left perch.
0653 - ♂ flew to top of NEXT shrub 6N (5±yds) + sat on bare portion of
limb. Gave single chatter song. Both then flew to small pile of
dead Acacia branches 20±yds. to NW. ♂ chattered loudly, but didn't
sound as if ♀ joined. ♂ to ground + forage to west.
0655 - up to top of 8 foot± shrub where sang chatter song. ♀
sat preening.
0700 - ♂ flew from sway perch down to 3½ feet from ♀ when gave
solo chatter. ♀ continued preening, ♂ silent + dropped down to 1½ feet
above ground.
