Amophila sumichrasti
August 17
2 1/2 miles E. Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico
2312 - broad patch refetchering, back molt. #1 primary - 1/2 grown.
some new 2o coverts.
2315 - ventral molt. + 2o coverts - quarter.
2316 - moist on head, lower back, + ventrine stage 4 broad patch.
2317 - no molt.
Watched 2 birds chattering + moving them from
first vegetation 3-8 feet above ground. One would
fly to dead branch + land. 2nd would then land
in almost identical spot forcing first to move. 1st
usually flew 3-10 feet further + whole process was
repeated. Watched 10+ exchanges of this type.
Heard chatter call being given but not sure by which
bird. Also not able to collect either bird so uncertain
as to which sex was which. John says he thought
it was no. 2 bird forcing or to fly when he watched
a similar action.
Whole bout lasted 1+ minute + covered about
30 feet in straight line, but birds traveled on arc.
Today encountered pairs of birds or singles.
Found no family groups, but John caught 2 fledglings.
