LH504 1963 August 15 nest building Amophila semecarpi 5 mi. E. Tehuacanfece, Oaxaca Discovered ? in early stages of nest-building this A.M. while trying to record vocalizations of the territories o? (ends tape B). He sang from several perches within 20 feet of nest while ? was adding material. [sketch] o singing what sounds like solo chatter. wired & recorded few -- - calls. began this type of call almost entirely at 0657. Was then 15 yards SE of nest. Another pair has territory to S. & probably tree marks one corner. While o? was singing near both members of neighboring pair flew to near base of tree & gave chatter duet. Then flew to 5 feet closer to nest. o? of nest then flew about 1/2 distance toward them & sang. Pair moved slightly closer with more chattering. As o? approached within about 20 feet the pair
