LLWO/4 1964 Amophila retescens August 10 5mi. E. Cuernavaca, 5700+ft, Morelos, Mexico 0940 - pair 8 (6) - one or both churring for 15 sec. 0942 - 8 (6) begins singing --- + single notes. not frequently 0943 - 87 begins to sing across road to N. ---~---. aw song type. 88 continues singing until 0949 when hear spaces chut + 88 silent. 87 sings until 0946 + then silent. 0958- 88 6 (8) sang for 20 sec. + thumpint. flew this way & back to area of 881, 4 odc. to E 4+ miles. 1030 - 87 singing from shrub & tree group dense. I try to approach t he keeps moving away. Circles to N + then E. Quiet from 1039-1041 + then starts again - possibly partly due to stimulus of 82 singing to NE following 83 singing to E. Then silent again at 1050. 1053- sporadic singing ---~ / -- ~ -- ~ prob. has up introd. note sounds do be singing from low near ground + is in shrub + tree thicket, quiet for several minutes from 1055-1057 + then 3 songs a 5 sec. apart + quiet sing / - probably is singing as forages. sing soft / 1105 - 8 sang softly prolonged several times before both flushed from ground near side road. flew up into nearby shrub + then to lower branches of tree + proceeded to work up to near top of tree + disappeared. 1122- 82 sang three times - 2 loud, 1 soft - then quiet. 1138- 87 sang for 10.5 minutes - type B + A - more B. was on elevated perch but hidden from view. dropped toward ground giving churr notes then silent. 1155- 88 (6) sang three consecutive song ---~2 type + then silent. 1208- one of pair 7 churred for 5 sec.
