LLW014 1964 Aimophila rufescens August 9 Emi.E. Guernasco, 5900+/-, Morelos, Mexico Joined by other member of pair which perked at same spot from other side. Then both dropped to ground - one following other by 10-15 feet + squeak. flashed one or both from ground + flew off to SE where squealed. foree/ then to ground + foraged off to NE. When I approached ? flew up from faint ground & worked rapidly to top of same 25'+ foot tree when I watched. flight / Then flew (til pumping) to W+ dropped slightly - sang from new perch. ? flew up into thick shrub + disappeared. 0855-1600 relocated pair 8 (possibly pair 6 went to E in territory). flew up from or near ground. ? walked to NE when sang when I sat knuckled on 2" dia. branch (8'up) - giving occasional chir. ? back to just SW of ? ?chir/ + ? began to move about in tree. both then flown downward ground to SE+ frase/ squeak, walked over there + saw mostly ? working on ground + up to 3- 7 feet up in shrubs. ? would fly off to NW+ sing then return. ? chirping chir/ (peek) most of time - churring occasionally. ? into interior of shrub + ? to tree just NE. ? began churning as ? flew out of shrub as I approached. flew up to lead branch of tree (6 foot up) where sat pruning. ? flew over & both flew into shrub worked three shrubs - chirping regularly. ? flew off to NW when sang + ? off to SW to thicket as I approached shrub. Young bird flew from about 3 feet up over (20+ yds) to where ? had gone. Followed + ? stayed within 10-15 feet of yr in shrubs & low branches of trees - very higher than 3-4 feet, chirping regularly occasionally with stop to chir for 5? sec. ? worked three area once + then off SW to sing. interesting Two Basilentus virgifrons flew in + also began chirping + scooing. Walked to close as 10+ feet + then walked out of sight. At about 0930 (after 10-15 minutes) young (nearly full grown) began to work up from
