Amphila rufescens
August 8 5 mi E Cuernavaca, 5900+ ft, Moutos Mexico.
flight of 30+ yds. then one dropped to ground followed by 2nd. one hopped rapidly along ground with wings held slightly out from body + tail spread. other bird followed with occasional short hopping flights to land right next to lead bird. one giving chur notes + other singing occasionally. disappeared from view + then heard squeal.
0930 - found two birds working three trees (up to 1/2 up tree) back toward tree grove. joined by a 3rd bird which was chased several times for short distances. Birds worked three canopy + subcanopy of trees at S end of grove. 3rd bird is a Melozome kuwari. One came toward a rufescens, + lit on bare limb 1/2 foot below rufescens.
rufescens immediately flew down + displaced Melozome from perch - All three birds moved off three trees (from 1/3 to top).
0933 - M6 to top of 25 foot tree at SW edge of grove. Singing type B.
0938 - M7 begins singing across road + M6 flies to NE to 25 foot tree where counter-sings. Begins several songs with a sharp tick note.
0942 - M6 leaves tree + goes to NW.

0944 - M7 still singing + hear chur notes from SW of grove + then squeal by pair 6 - not sure if both sexes participated.

0946 - M6 sings two consecutive songs from top of tree at SW edge of grove (tree 4) + then flies down to 8+ feet above ground to NW when squeal. M7 still singing.
0950 - 0954 - M6 up counter-singing with M7, probably only 8-10 feet above ground.
