August 8
5 mi. E. Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico
B,C,B,C dropped to ground when frozed in 2-4 mile winds along old road which is grazed down by livestock. I also foraging there.
move off road slightly & forage around bases of weed clumps or turned to be mostly picking at tops of weeds - most of which now are in seed.
oncasionally picks at ground. flies off to NW where sings rather soft songs. I flew up into tree when D first singing then to tree (25') 15+ yds. to SW. then farther to SW & out of sight. Squeal on arrival.
Churring as I approach them quiet.
0843- heard several drawn out tzeeeeee notes & then squeal sounds like two birds participating, but I think one bird is responsible for loud squeal & other for only short accompanying notes. Then finish churacts quiet.
0905 - moved down road to area of pair #6. found birds near 5 end of tree grove along lava fence. Both flew up into lower branches of trees - D sang type B song (10-15) & then flew over to join E - no squeal.
Both together on bar, nearly horizontal limbs then flew to next tree to W.
one follows other & again no squeal. D them moves to top of tree (25')
20+yds to NE where sings type B song until 0913. Flies to SW toward ground & hear squeal - definitely 2 birds this time.
0917- D in top of 20 foot tree singing type B song - 1/4 sec. for 105+ sec. Then flew over to NE to top of 25' tree where sang several times there floppy flight farther to NE & to near bar of tree.
0920 - heard chur notes & SW from where D came. then from near bar of tree at which D disappeared heard outburst of chur notes & songs.
then two birds flew towards me (to SE) one following 2+ feet behind other.
one singing & other churring in flight. both landed on det limbs of nearby tree yet
