Aimophila aestivalis
June 20
1 1/2 mi. S, Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas
Stopped along road where heard or singing up slight
dry hill country was open long-leg pines 50-75 feet tall.
Understory of grass scattered shrubs.
Habitat
Heard chirping so tried to collect her. Found her with
ladybird in bill so sat & waited. After much chirping,
sitting quietly, & more chirping finally dropped to ground.
I waited for her to fly up but she didn't in 15 sec. so walked
over. She didn't flush. Backed off. Heard her chirping
again & saw her with (same?) ladybird in bill. Finally,
down to ground again. Walked over. Heard young
squealing & finally flushed & from nest. She darted off
away from me staying on ground. Running crabbed
down & horizontal to ground. Stayed within 10-15 feet of
nest while I inspected making chirping noise.
Food
Nest- On ground at edge of clump of grass. Some of

well developed - head & back covered.
