LL Wait 1969 Aimophila rufescens August 8 Eni.E. Cuernavaca, 5900 ft, Placlos Mexico sang several times then moved 5yds to 5 to 12 foot tree. sang once from N side then moved to S side on bar branch. sang B type songs for 4-5 minutes. - average /song/ 5 sec. while F foraged on ground then weedy patch area (1-8 inches tall) with scattered shrubs. 0637 - M flew over (25-30 pds to NW) + heard squeals. sounded as if one bird contributed most to squeal. All this shortly after early morning rain stopped. 0645 - M I sang twice from 40-4yds to W of where squealed. then to ground to forage among 6" thick weeds + grass. used some dead, fallen weed stalks as perches just above ground while around boring shrub. up into tree when sang once after M across road (M ??) sang twice. followed by squeal of pair F + M I also squealed. flicked left wing slightly during squeal & moved up to top of 15 foot tree. F presumably on or near ground foraging & did not participate. M then flew SW to join F + both next seen 4+ feet up in lower branches of tree. M then moved up to top of 20+ foot tree 30+ yds. low. pair F squealed + foraged in grazed, weedy area across road. one worked completely around a 2 foot dia (2 feet tall) wet c lump but did not go inside. 0706 - pair I squealed off, pair F had flown off to NW away from road. pair F then fell close to road where at least one began churring from bare limbs near top of 20 foot tree. plus 5+ yds E to top of next tree where continues churring. + (0709) sings two soft songs & then continues churring. flight floppy with tail pumping.
