0742- (sempair) heard loud squeals from undergrowth sounded as if more than 2 birds then heard squeal close to road which was joined by a 2nd squealing bird - seemed duet both seemed to contribute the same sound. One then flew across road to SE in 30+ sec another bird followed then heard squeal 50-58 yds to NW so this may have been territorial dispute between 2 pair
0950 series of three consecutive songs from just NW of road.
1027 - Adult (see full grown poing in juvenile plumage) ate something while foraging along dead branches lying on ground. But wiped or branch flew up onto bare nearly horizontal branch 10 feet up & bird wiped again. Male sang 20-25 feet away this adult flew off & heard squeal (prob. M + F)
1038 - Male sang three consecutive songs then piquet.
1046 - Male sang three consecutive loud songs from 30+ yds NW of road thinking pair.
August 6
5 mi N. Cuernavaca, 2000 +/- ft, Morelos Mexico
flight
bird (M) came up from on ground when I squealed worked up into bare upper branches of 7 foot oak then flew to bare lower branches (10 up) of nearby pine flight floppy with much pumping of tail worked thru lower branches & then flew to other pine 30+ yds downhill again tail - pumping flight then dropped to ground (a new ground). Another pair of birds moved across hill near pine tree just vacated by this M giving churring notes & then squeal as this M flew uphill. Sang two short songs in flight just over tops of shrubs (5-6' up) & then dropped to ground.
