LL W014 1964 Amoxtle nymceous August 3 Fri. E. Cunnacoca, Moulas, Mexico 0850 - flushed adult from grass + weeds on small lava outcrop. Flew into shrub + weed thicket where sat on various bare limbs 2-3 feet up. Joined by another bird which worked across outcrop by staying in weeds or dropping behind protruding rock. 2nd bird in dropped to ground + moved by hops along ground soon after arriving. 0910 - another pair. Flushed bird (adult) from dense weeds at edge of shrub thicket, flew up to dead broken off branch 8 feet up where swallowed whitish-looking object (bird sac?). So I walked in another adult flushed + joined 1st which had since flown to SW 20+yds at least one began "churring" sound which continued for 2-3 minutes while I looked for nest (no luck), occasional chip notes from another bird. May be feeding fledgling(s). 0945 - adult (prob. S?) came in to "solness" + began giving chur, but rather than run together in long series gave as individual notes + louder than continuous chur. Then moved off in thicket (closed canopy) of shrubs where a bird began singing. 1025 - while walking back along gravel (lava) road flushed several pairs from roadway. One pair moved up into subcanopy of tree (25+ feet) 10 yds from road. Can then worked out thru canopy to dead branches just above road where sat chipping, rocking forward + back - mostly by raiting + lowering head + tail crown feathers partly up. Changing pos direction on each turn 30 deg L. Then dropped down to other side of road. Other bird (S?) began singing from low in shrubs below tree + then hopped out onto road. Hopped across road, several times stopping to pick at ground (prob. foragiet), stayed at edge of grass.
