LL Wolf 5/64 Aimophila rufula August 2 22 mi S. Chilpancingo, 2800 ft., Guerrero, Mexico of to grass where moved slowly thru grass below canopy. Chip notes louder as moved off. Collected. no good patch. Have heard 2 pairs give squeal dist as seen them come together. Once 15 feet up near top of pine + once in 6 foot oak. Unable to collect either pair. dust August 3 5 mi E. Guerrero, Maelos, Mexico 0645 - ♂ sang then one of pin #1 across road where sat busy upon 10 foot tree "churring" - long + softly. Other bird flew in to lower in saw tree & gave reunion squeal - other bird (♀) continued to give churring noise soonly on giving squeal. squeal 0655 - ♂ sang from W side of road + another adult flying from E. heard "squeal" but couldn't see either bird. One + then other both to E side of road, chirping. one finally worked to shrub clump 5±yds to N. while other moved thru canopy of tree nearby chirping softly. ♂ sang 3 times in succession off to SE 75 yds & then heard squeal. bird in tree gradually worked down to lowest branches in tree (21ft up) + dropped to ground - chirping closed. foraged in short herb layer vegetation, but with dead + live weed stalks 3± feet high forming almost continuous layer. A Mulsore kinnei worked thru on ground + up to 6 ± inches in shrubs near Aimophila. Was not chased & finally flew off to NE. forage inspecific 0720 - ♂ sang twice in succession directly E. 0725 - juven dropped up onto dead weed stalks + chirped. Appears to have tail about 3/4 grown.
