Locket 1963 Himophila outiceps June 24 - sec journal June 25 - Molino Basin, 15 mi. NE Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona. In this oak-grass area in the Catalina Mts. outiceps is paired + occurs on rocky slopes covered w/ grass, agave, + other sisal-like plants. I heard at least 3 singing outd. John collected one bird - ♀ w/ stage 3 brood patch + an ovum of 2mm. Was not able to see if any post-ovulatory follicles. Saved stomach + internal parasites. Was unable to record song, which sounds very similar to one of the Berkeley songs. One outd I followed went 100-150 yds. along slope. I am not sure just how large the territory is, but the birds are much more widely spaced than is carpalis on Wilmot Rd. June 30 - Guadalupe Canyon, Hidalgo Co., New Mexico species common on both slopes above floor of canyon. birds are singing actively up thru 10:30. Habitat is mesquite, creosote, grass, yucca, agave with many bare rocky areas. Thought I saw one family group of four, at least one bird looked to be in juvenile plumage - view was too short to be sure.
