LH Wolf 1963 Amphila quingustriata July 14 / Brown Towhee + Canepon When also frase on ground in this habitat, also Caetres When. All possible competitors for 5-stripes. behavin: 0700 - bird flown to rock outcrop Again very flopppy flight at end. Sat again w/ tail cocked ~ 60° very jerky jumping around - wing flit + tail jump. Gave one sharp note & was joined by a 2nd bird giving same movements. Two were & 2 put away, bodies at vt-c, but facing each other. Then disappeared over crest. Amount of singing has decreased - mostly increased quiet interval between song bouts. forage + food: 0705 - watched pair foraging for 10± minutes. When I 1st seen one bird (partly groom rectrix) had 2 inch caterpillar. beat it against rocks, mandibulate from end to end, beat, mandibulate, beat, & eat. Bill cope. Then hop 2- feet and catch < 1 inch green caterpillar. This swallowed w/ no preliminaries. Both members of pair spent most of time foraging on ground. 50± % time in legumes + other species. Much of time on rocky outcrops. Food obtained here is questionable - at best probably not many caterpillars. 8,16 social: When bird across gully began singing & I of this pair also started. 409 27.0 Hermosillo
