July 13 Brother was shot just at edge of "bean" forest 50 feet from previous bird. Was heard giving a sort of warble song from perch 7 feet up. As I walked up to retrieve specimen another bird walked slowly away up hillside. When collected this was a ♀ (s) from ruptured follicles - apparently had been very close when it was giving warble call. Song normally from elevated exposed perch, but found both singing from on or near ground when I was chasing them to collect. Chased a tailless ♂ - earlier singing - into tree containing another singing ♀. 30+ yards from where tailless ♂ first sighted. Saw no outward sign of aggression although tailless ♂ stayed in outer edge of trees. Collected both birds. July 14 20 mi. E. Mazatan, Sonora, Mexico. Car. 114. 40852-0 pair up in "shrubs" at crest of hill. One very agitated at my approach & flew over my head to dead limbs 30 feet away & 25 feet high. 2nd disappeared over hill & a♂ began singing over there. (♀ began hopping in shrub layer generally 2-3 feet up, occasionally dropping lower. uttering chimp notes continuously. Saw another coming down from next hill & bird I had been watching went long flight. One of these two continued to move in shrub layer at 2-3 feet looked as if
