5 LLW0/5 1963 Amophila raptaris August 12 km 616 on Pan Am Hwy. S of Oaxaca, Oaxaca. I see notes but not able to see birds. Saw both working along slope on ground. Progress by hopping - apparently foraging. Then disappeared again. Reappeared in shrub layer ~ 2 feet up as fly to ground. Work along slope again. One hopped ~ 2' up just in front of dead bush before dropping to ground. Next reappear as one followed by second flew both along slope into subcanopy of 20 foot tree. Then continued along slope for 10-15 yards & lit in shrub layer. Saw one hover & peck at something about 5 feet above ground. Then both dropped to ground. As I approached one (or) flushed from ground onto nearly horizontal dead branch 2 feet up. One bird wiped vigorously & flew slightly downline to top of 20 foot tree where began singing. & has apparently worked 10-15 yards uphill where I can hear a bird giving treet calls. This may have been another bird still. Or left song perch & flew along slope to 5-6 foot up branches of tree. There met & fluct worked up from downhill. Both flew along slope & into dense shrub. & then appeared & hopped along hill among shrubs. Now saw her go into very open areas. Or several times appear to bill wipe vigorously then back into shrub. Not sure if feeding in shrub or on ground beneath. & then appeared with straw in bill. Could then see where small bushes were
