Antophila mystacalis.
August 9 4 mi. sw. Matahan, Oaxaca
much like A. carpalis.
Pair reunion call raspy pee pee yoo, etc.
--2--2. Giving after bird flushed from ground into small tree a few way up + hidden by foliage. not sure if two birds present. Bird then to top of tree (10 feet) on dead limb. Preening + giving 3 peet notes.
M then worked down to lower limbs of oak + perched at junct (?) in terminal leg clump on branch a 1 foot above ground. Another bird behind. Both down to ground
+ foraging on ground. As I approached to view they flew up into interior of 6 foot scrub oak. M flew downhill ~ 50 yards + gave several introductions to song. Then began 3 peet notes which were answered by F. M began working back uphill. F flew about 10 yards downhill.
Two perched on dead twigs a /8" above main "snags" of chapareal x about 5 feet apart. M then gave "chatter" call + slight version of wing flicking display. M flew back downhill after sitting silently for 30+ sec.
F apparently entirely a silent partner in this chatter, then also disappeared.
M M or still singing + the pair I watched acted as if some breeding activity in the vicinity - nest or young. Singing M's are spaced as noted in Puebla.
