LL Wolf 1963 2 Amphila mystacalis August 7 9 mi. SE. Izucar de Matamoros, Puebla, Mexico at vast double brooded. Several & collected today were getting ready to lay while there were also four grown juven. essentially finished with postjuv. molt. watched a & just after collected or ~ 10 feet away. She foraged about 1-2 feet up in legume tree near where trunk bifurcated. Some leafy branches here. When collected she had a 3/4 inch brown caterpillar in bill. chatter: every this species sound soft purled like humeralis, but with individual notes less distinct + more shvered together. Heard individual birds giving chatter after I collected one grain. Also had several instances of two birds flying into tree together + landing very close together + then commencing chatter. Thought both birds were involved. Not close enough to see details of any display connected with chattering. August 9 4 mi. SW Matatlan, Oaxaca, Mexico individual John recorded song of one bird + got no response f s playback. Neighboring bird responded by approaching recorder + singing back. song Song is ~ 72 mmmm... At 0630 bird is giving +- almost entirely. Given from exposed perch in or near top of shrub or rocky hillside. Has very high thin treble note which sounds very
