July 26 Canyon de los 9 mi E Cusmanaca, Mulas, Mexico (1400#)
+ joined by chipping bird. Continued chipping the way on low (3:')
Acacia limb + sang once then flew down hill to 700' = P walked near.
Then bird up onto Acacia limb when giving pitz-a calls. Heard chatter
from twin branches & saw two male birds drop from 11-24" up to 12:" up
then led by bird #1 all 3 flew up to tree 20+yds down hill from tree #1.
Pair gave chatter while #1 was silent. After chatter #1 began
pitza calls. #1 then to top of tree #1 when gave pitz-a calls. Pair
flew into tree #1 about 5yards up + chattered from subcanopy, then they
moved off to S into "mock orange" while #2 bird stayed at top giving
pitz-a calls. Another bird also began pitz-a from 20+yds. 8 yards
from tree #2. Bird #1 flew to tree #2 + gave pitza's. Bird up hill
continued calling for 30+sec + then quiet. Bird #1 continued calling
from tree #1 + then flew uphill to other tree (10+yds) + called. Now
only bird calling except for single chatter from pair #1 in mock orange itself.
At 1027 chatter from tree uphill from #2 preceded by 2 birds giving
pitz-a including bird #1, but not sure which giving chatter or
relationship of bird #1 forest of pairs. Then quiet.
1105 - bird not on root #1 when shaded. While being 8" chipped + then
drop from undergrowth just uphill.
