July 26 Cañon de Lobos, Pmi. E. Guanajuato, 4800+ft., Morelos, Mexico
0635- pair #3 chattered from 75±yds N of gully. Then flew into tree at N edge of gully. Moved from 3+ feet below top to top & chattered- flew to N. one (??) went 50±yds, other only 30±yds, ? lit on main crook of 7 feet "mock orange". Preened. Other bird to top y partly defoliated tree where sat quietly on dead branch. Began giving pitz-a call.
+ ?? flew over to land just below. Then chattered - facing to SE & SW?
?? seemed to be giving SL SL part of call (by movement of bill), while ? ? seemed to give trill. ? flicking lift wing vigorously. Other began flicking left wing, but quit when changed direction slightly as moved up 6-8 meters closer to higher bird. ? ? then flew to canopy of next tree (partly defol.) where foraged among leaves. ?? sat quietly on top of perch.
0645- had to leave area to talk with Policia.
0717 - heard pair #2 chatter from N side of gully. As approached on S side pair #1 flushed from open area of grass + composites with a few low (2-3 foot) Acacia + other shrubs. Went up into vine tangle at N edge of gully. Worked to top when gave abbreviated chatter. Then flew off down hill to near top of partly defoliated tree 40±yds away. Then chattered with both birds starting with wing flits but soon stopping. Then flew 20-30 yds further downhill + chattered again. Saw another bird (19-male #3) fly into tree at S edge quietly very near + just downhill from where pair #1 flushed from ground/small area of mutual use). Then pitz-a call from tree #2 as bird flew into tree. Then chattered, followed by chatter of pair #1 downhill from tree #1. Pair #3 then to S along hill.
0730- pair #3 chattered to S of tree #2 then one flew into tree. After pitz-a call other also into tree #2 when chattered. Two birds initially 12-15"
