LL Wolf 1964 Amorphila humeralis July 23 Carron de Lobos, Juan E. Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico They one flew down toward ground while other remained perched quietly at top. 0812 - bird from below flew up to branch about '2 way up tree #2 & perched bird flew down then chattered with wing flickering (mostly right). Then both left tree. 0825- Chatter from area #1. 0834- heard pizza flies from area of tree #1 - then solo chatter + short clut then more pit-zz notes. 0840 - pair #3 flying from on or near ground to lower dead branch (8-10' up) of tree #2. Chattered - both facing NE one wing flicking - left vigorously. Then one flew off to W downhill - heard chatter. This one then back to shrub below tree #2. One in tree #2 sitting quietly on dead limb (nearly horizontal + 8 feet up) then moves to canopy on N side where frages. Leaves all nearly completely cater + many brown & wilted. Moves thru canopy generally on branches 3"-1 dia, but still does go to outer tips. Generally sits peering about + then moves rapidly - 6-12" + pecks at leaf. Sometimes just reaches up & pecks. Once flew ups hovered while feeding at leaf then drop back to same perch. Also pecks as drops down to lower branches. Caught several unidentified insects + at least one "1/2"+ Lepid Crust. Smaller insects manipulated & bitten at tip of bills before swallowing. Lepid. larva flick vigorously to side several times before eating. Moved out to dead tip of branch & sat quietly peering abdomen. Then gave several pit notes before flying uphill to wooded query. Then gave pizza series from 10+ feet up, but 5 feet below canopy + then quiet. Other member of pair #3 up into lower branches of tree #2, where chattered.
