Aimophila humeralis
August 7

2202 - juv. just finishing p.f. molt. Light back molt.
Also tertials, wing coverts old. Stomach contained
green caterpillar + other insect fragments.
August 8
7 m.s. Piastla, Puebla, Mexico.
found pair in small trees + shrubs between grazed, mowing
area + cultivated field - on hillside. Both into a road-lighted
7 foot tree. One giving soft trill. Both hopped on branches
in manner of grazing mice - hop, even about hop. One disappeared
presumably to ground while other perched in top of 4 foot
tegume still giving the soft trill. Given as once every 2 or 3
seconds. At 0639 flew briefly down to ground, a 5 feet from
base of legume.
Watched one fly down to few dead sticks lying haphazardly
on ground. Hopped around on sticks + finally walked down to
pick at something - apparently a stick then into 4-6 inch grass
with scattered weeds where lost.
Pair on brush pile 1 foot above ground. 2 birds about
6-8 inches apart giving chatter. Both were wing flicking but
one more violently than other. More violent was (arrow pointing to left) flicking
wing on side toward other bird much more than wing
away from other. Seemed no difference between 2 wings on
less violently displaying bird.
