leaf of an emergent plant. What little could be seen of the bird down in the growth indicated feeding was done both on the ground. Twice plants shook vigorously in the area of a foraging bird. A bird after emerging from the herbaceous layer without exception wiped the bill numerous times. Forays lasted different times for each bird during the 15 minutes of observation. The ♂ fed on the ground sporadically, perhaps 4 or 5 times for 1-2 minutes each. The ♀ spent about the same length of time foraging on the ground but did it numerous times. The adults, when not foraging, preened or sat and chipped.
The ♂ made half-hearted attempts to sing (introductory note only). The juvenile emerged from the vegetation infrequently, perhaps on 4-5 times during the whole period.
