(insect) Estimated height of apex of song flights - 0608 to 0621 20, 18, 12, 20, 7, 19, 15, 15, 18, 20+, 15, 15, 15, 12, 18, 15, 15-, 15, 15, 15, 12, 12, 15, 18, 18, 15, 12, 12+, 15, 15, 18, 18, 15, 15, 18-20, 18, 18, 15, 12, 10, 12, 15, 3.2/min. 42 song flights in 13 minutes. usually went up [illegible] 15' or less when changing perches, once up to 18'. And all low values do not represent perch changes. there were no perch songs in this 13 min. interval. 100% flight 0628 - #2 several flight songs to 5 so now 30-40 yds S of perch #3, 0629 - one song flight back to #13. then 5- fl. w/o #3. 0835 - #2 landed on perch in region of #13. dead weed stem-bare- + approx. 3' tail. At 60° L. with horizontal where bird is perched. song flight begins with fluttery, rapid wing flight up nearly to apex, then stall + tail spreads as wings are outstretched. turn downward to glide back to perch with tail spread; flutter just before landing. can see light veins on outer tail feathers where tail spread. bird sitting perched shows head dark brown in marked contrast to greayer color of back, head richer brown than dark brown of tail. 0655 - flight song from #3 to over my head at # 5. then heard to SW 30-40 yds. then flight song back to #3. song flight color
