LLW014 1964 29 Aimophila cassinii July 1 chitter Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas 1022 - bird near where #2 went down giving chitter series. then saw bird flutter 20-30' up + giving chitter series, then broke into warbly flight song (chit-fl.song) + dropped to ground. As landed a 2nd bird flew by at brush top level + left 5'-10' beyond. flutter flights 1023.5 - Bird rising into air against wind so going almost straight up, gives series of chips until nearly at top when broke into flight song. Bird landed only 20-28 yds N of perch #7. flight songs 1027.5 - #2 flight song to perch #1 when gave pitch songs appeared to come from between perches #3 + #1, but not sure. bird is not out on exposed limb so is prob in interior of shrub. This instilled & song perches ~8' as is #5, #7 is ~6-7' while rest are <5'. has been singing most of these perch songs from #2 in shade on exterior of brush, same spot as at 0957. ~2/min. sang until 1045.5 or 36 songs in 18 minutes. then disappeared from perch. 1050 #2 back into perch #2. one branch lower than at 027.5. perch songs ~4 stopped at 1055 when flew to NE so just 20+ yds. to N of me, dropped into ground after 1st landing on 3' dead shrub. July 2 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas Arrived at mesquite tank at 0550. #2 giving flight songs. Seems to have changed perch slightly to SW using #16 + one between #16 + #3 (#13). 0558.5 - flight song back to #3.
