LL Wolf 1964 8 Aimophila alestivalis June 19 / mi. S. Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas inch of grasses just back from entrance O. ground 0831 - 82 singing 150 ft E of nest. at 15 feet up + right at end of 6 inch dead stub. 0832 - silent 0838- 82 perching on same spot. - stopped at 08:57 0841 - 82 perching no sign of F. 0845 - sitting quietly at end of the dead limb. tail + body axis form straight line about 30 deg with perch /30 legs front + only part of tarsus shows below abdomen feathers. slow rapid up & down movement of feet on perch as if goning to fly but didn't leave (08:52). (limb 1" diameter) 0857 - 82 gone from perch - left while I was writing notes so not sure where he went. 0906 - 82 up into limb (6') of pine, then after much "bowing" + tail pumping flew to lowest dead limb of pine (7' up) + sang. Tail flicking when held at horizontal or above as sinks below horizontal birds become quiescent. (climb 1" dia,) flies to [illegible] N where about 100 feet from me. sings soft song with occasional longer song. at end of 2 foot long - 2" diam. perch. /0 ft up 0907 - left perch, - not sure to where. 0908 - bird on small limb (2" dia) in small pine 20 feet N of nest. tail above horizontal + 30 deg + pumping. bird swinging three 600 on perch + once turned /80 deg + then back to still facing forward nest. faded
