LW014 1964 26 Aimophila cassini July 1 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas 0620 - 0623.5 - 10 songs in 3\frac{1}{2} min. flight - IIII perch - HLL I changed perches after each flight song - 1st to SE where another d singing 100+ yds to SE. Then to W, where two d's singing then quiet for 2nd min while down in grass. Song flight then to N to perch where first seen (#1) - see map on back. 0626 - 0632 bird quiet. Can hear chipping to E of me. 0632-06\frac{3}{4} perch, perch, perch. Fl. to #4, perch, perch, perch, perch, perch, perch, perch, perch, flight. Dropped down to SW behind clump of mesquite - out of sight. Quiet. 06 30 - wind 5-10 mph + rather gusty. 0642 - flight song from W of #4 to 3 yds. ending #4. Then perch songs HLL IIII to 0646. Then quiet all tho still as perch. 0647 - "" perch song can hear chipping to E. of #1/perch. 0648- d left perch - apparently silent flight to perch #3. 0655- at least 2000 singing west of my d + two singing cast. S. of his terr. is grassy area with no shrubbery + very scattered trees. N. looks like good habitat but no birds heard from there. habitat 0705 - adult from this territory with food in bill + young in same stump. Also d painted bunting. Young dropped down toward ground, ? followed. young flew out to NE followed by ? which was being chased by the bunting d. inter-species 0712.5- d gave song from on or near ground. then flew up to perch #1 giving flight song almost in stall just before landing.
