Kluoff 1964 20 Aimophila cassini: June 29 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas 0955 ♂#1 singing. 0956 - ♂#2 flew up about 5 fut above branch & gave complete flight. then perch songs - 43 gave 14 perch songs in 5 min. of 75 perch songs 18 were delivered when sun behind cloud + 2 from exposed part in sun. then bird dropped into shade of top branches; still on tree, exposed flesh but shaded, then 2 songs after sun went under cloud ♂ gave flight song returning to same perch, but on top, exposed, dead branch. sang & then moved into shade 2 songs before sun really bright again. then 7 more before flight song. returned to same bush but on exposed branch as soon under cloud for rest 5 songs, 1017- out in sun for 4 songs then into shade. gave 59 songs in 21 minutes. of these only 3 were flight songs (includes 43 mentioned above). During much of this time ♂#2 was sole singer - ♂ #1, 3, + 6 contributed. Perhaps this is an unmated bird or ♀ is incubating. ⊕#2 sang sporadically between 1017+1023. then flight song to new perch when into shade for several perch songs. 1027 - dropped down to grass then flight song back to hackberry. lit in bright sun but immediately walked down into shade where sat singing. June 30 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas. Arrived at 0845. ♂#2 singing - mostly flight songs. Sang essentially continuously until 0950 when left area. See following notes.
