15 LLWO/F 1964 Aimophila cassini June 28 Welder Wildlife Foundation San Patricio Co., Texas 0858- found adult in area #7. Flew to SE 10 yards + lit in top of 5' hackberry. Gave one partial song. Hear chipping to W. ♀ flies to W + curves S. Another bird flies out to hackberry to where sits with bill opening & closing then flies to SE 10 yds to another hackberry. Joined by ♂ who perches 6-8" away + slightly below the ♀. Silently sit for 1+ min, then 2nd bird flies off to SW & disappear as dropping down behind hackberry. ♂ remains for 1+ min longer then flew up to W. in clut. flu. 8029. Then lost from view. chitter behavior. 0925- flushed adult from Nend of den. 7. Flew up into top of 5-6' hackberry where sat preening, fluffing feathers, flicking tail, + occasionally appeared to hold wings slightly out from body & flutter them. Flew off to S 50+ yds. Flushed another bird (yg.) from clump of slant mesquite around tall mesquite. dropped to ground 20+ yards to E. 0931- hear chips from yg. + adult. Adult flies into 8' mesquite where immediately joined by young. Both prob. Carl Sparras. Lark Sparras adult was Lark Sparrow, but young did not show any white in tail when it flew - so prob. the yg. Cassin's. 1010- there has been no continued period of activity in terr. #7 this morning. Pair has probably moved out + maybe birds occupying #5 but there has been bird singing on entire days over them. June 29 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas 0600- arrived at mesquite tank. ♂♂ giving flight songs too ♂♂ giving flight songs within 75-100 yds of each other. (see back)
