C2 LLWO/4 1969 Asiophila cassini June 27 Weldon Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas Chitter / Chittering call + flew down from perch. Singing / 0945 - Found a 4th family group along road - on N side near phone lines. - 2 yq. + adult flew tow. On adult with food flow toward road, lit at base of mesquite. As San crawled to 30 yards jumped up into top of mesquite (3') + then worked down to base again. Hopped along ground until under branch 8-10" up, jumped up three times + pulsed at the leaf. Then a young appeared. Both worked interior & out away from me. Flow west to E. one (yq?) only 10 - 15 yards, ? 25+ yds. Then lost track of both. whist leaf / chitter / 1000 - ot in terr. #2 gave three consecutive chitter flight songs - one flight 50+ yds to W parallel to road. then I regular songs then silent. Whistles / 1025 - ? in terr. #1 gave chitter flight song. & bird singing both to E + W. June 28 Weldon Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas perches 0550 - hear chittering in terr. #1. Bird flies to W + lands at base of mesquite then (another W (total 58-60 yds) to fly into lower branches of mesquite & then drop to ground. Another flies in from W to land in middle of grassy patch. 0555 - adult flies up to top of mesquite + lands on vertical dead stem fluttering + moves to another vertical stem again flutters as if unable to maintain that position, then flits to horizontal perch & stops. 0600 - disappears. can hear chipping in grass, but no sight of birds.
