Amphila cassinii
June 16
8 mi. W. Davis, S.E. of Jeff Davis Co., Texas
Found 4 singing orioles in legume shrub grassland. Birds were widely spread (>100 yards) in areas where were low + collected water - hence shrubs taller + ground vegetation lushier.
Chased one singing oriole which was difficult to locate.
Was singing from 2/3 way up in 4 foot legumes. Flew to+ disappeared into taller legumes. Lost it when tried to collect + missed.
Chased a 2nd oriole which was giving the flight song. Song started about 2 feet below peak of flight. Generally flight was much steeper up + glide to same or another brush. Was curving flight 3/4 back to same brush. Unable to collect this one either.
