LLWOLF 1963 Aimophila cassini July 8 - John + I agree that birds were spaced at about 50 +/- yard intervals. This where the good grass was continuous. Birds were essentially absent, until checked from area where ground was bare or only covered with short herbs + mesquite. Central pair of rectrices much more worn than others. Probably not molted at last molt - pre-moltal? These birds apparently are locally abundant in Southwestern New Mexico where there is ground cover of 1-2 feet tree & fairly thick with mesquite or some other emergent tree or shrub to provide elevated song perches. habitat July 10 0.6 mi. N. Benson Hwy., Wilmot Rd., Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona This locale is supposed to be good for Cassin Sparrows after mid-July. Today there are no singing birds so apparently the migration is underway, but has not reached this far west yet.
