Aimophile aestivalis June 18 (mi.) Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas 09:07 A bird flew down into small shrub + hopped to near end of a branch. Then flew up to lowest (6 feet) limb of pine 25 feet to SE. Heard bird singing but seems to be from farther away than this one I am watching (now hidden behind shrub) so think this is F. Then back down to ground by shrub. Disappeared, but flew out after 15 sec. to NE. Lit on dead pine branch 7 feet up then flew to another 20 feet further to NE. Here turned slightly on perch [illegible] back + forth + fluffed feathers once. Then down to ground. 09:15 - ? 50 feet to E of shrub begins singing from perch 7 feet up. On dead limb ~ 20 inches long about 6 inches from end. 09:19 - F onto dead pine limb 50 feet to NE of shrub. ? quiet, & carrying food - looks like orthopteran. Chipping lightly. Limb is 8 feet up + slightly J / over horizontal. ? has moved closer to main trunk. Both birds now quiet except for occasional soft "+ zink" from F. 09:24 - Both birds now flown. Noticed that just before F flew she had either dropped or eaten food she was carrying. 10:00 - While I was searching around shrub for a possible nest F (?) flew into tree 20 feet up + 50 feet to N. Carrying mouth full of insects, chipping occasionally. Stayed there for 10 min giving an occasional chip. Then silent not sure where she is. Left area at 10:15.
