Llwd o/8 1963 Amphila carpalis dec. 17 very noticeable lack of sparrows as were present in January, 1963. Does the bulk of the winter sparrows population not move in until January? The carpalis population seems to be less than January, 1963. So do most of the other common species so it probably is only an impression which is not valid. The carpalis do seem to be restricted more to mesquite- hackberry-grass areas + spending less time, unless chased, foraging in more open cholla-dominated areas. 49978.6
