LL wolf 1963 Amphila carpata Dec. 17 Willow Rd. O'Gorman Bown Hwy., Tucson Pima Co, Arizona most of the birds seen this A.M. were on east side of Willow Rd. occurred in groups of 5-10 individuals - groups of 5-10 generally around mesquite + hackberry where there is some bare ground, but also some grass. Saw 3-4 of these groups. Unable to find any of the color-banded males. scatization Heard one bird start a song, but no complete songs. Commonest vocalization is the "tzect" flock note. On five + occasions heard the warbling pair reunion call. On times when I was able to follow birds the call was invariably given as one flew into a bush + it was another carpata already present. Was never able to determine if only one or more were given the call. Once it sounded as if two were calling, but I am not sure. Unable, of course, to discover #/x of pair involved in dust. During breeding season it is given in pair reunion. This may be a more specialized case of a general reunion call or the birds may be paired during the winter. The call once sounded rather like a soft version of the "housgouse" call of A. semicollaris. Would be interesting to know if call is given all year around by those species having call well developed. Except for 2 lone Desert Sparrows + a small flock of White-crowned Sparrows, there were a
